Tune In Guelph

Guelph music to watch out for in 2015

Guelph bands have been making their way into Canada’s music scene over the past few years, and 2015 holds a lot of promise for Guelph music. The release of Missed Connection Records’ first vinyl compilation at the end of 2014 gave many Guelph bands the boost and exposure they needed, and also paved the way for an exciting year to come.

Following their release of short EP Into The Digital Age back in 2013, Tear Away Tusa has announced that a new EP is in the works. The group has been touring throughout Canada, and their unique soul/R&B sound makes for an exciting and anticipated EP release.

Alanna Gurr & The Greatest State released their hit album, Late At Night, just last year. The album received praise from CBC and Exclaim!, and stirred a lot of hype within the indie-folk niche of the Canadian music industry. Although it has not been confirmed whether Alanna Gurr & The Greatest State will be working on new music anytime soon, the group has been heavily touring throughout Canada and still has upcoming tour dates in the New Year. Definitely keep an eye out for these guys and try to catch a show – Gurr’s soft and hypnotic tunes will make you fall in love.

Guelph’s Lowlands have also been actively touring since the fall and winter of 2014, and seem to still have plenty in store for fans this coming year. Judging by their Facebook posts, it looks like the band has been back in the studio lately – perhaps working on a new album?

Since Guelph’s Odd Years released their debut album, Drawing Lines, their soft country-folk rock has been irresistible to the music community. Actively touring – and hopefully working on new music – they were recently featured on Missed Connection Record’s latest vinyl compilation. Be sure to check them out in the coming year.

Missed Connection Records recently signed a band that one of their own founders, Tyler Belluz, is part of. The band is called Del Bel, and has been commonly described as “eerie” and “creepy.” Their music has a certain edge to it, and the group had the amazing opportunity to open for July Talk recently. The hype of their upcoming self-titled album has been roused by the release of their latest single, “In My Solitude.” Del Bel promises to have a lot in store for their fans over the next year.

Guelph’s humble garage band, The Galacticats!, released new music at the end of 2014, and have now promised an exciting list of tour dates for 2015. After almost parting ways, the group decided to reconnect last-minute to record a bunch of new tracks.

With upcoming festivals like Kazoo! Fest, Hillside Inside, and Hillside’s Summer Festival, the Guelph music scene holds exciting fresh lineups and shows for this upcoming year. Don’t miss out!
