OVC ranked fourth among veterinary colleges worldwide

Long renowned for being a world leader in animal medicine, Guelph’s own Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) has another reason to be notable: it was recently announced as ranking fourth worldwide in veterinary science.

Including almost 900 postsecondary institutions throughout the globe, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranked schools in their respective categories based on research and reputation. Guelph (OVC) was outranked only by the University of California (Davis), Cornell University in New York, and the University of London’s Royal Veterinary College, in that order. Focusing nationally, Guelph’s veterinary curriculum has made it the highest ranked Canadian university on the list, followed by the University of British Columbia for its Geography program.

Needless to say, those involved with the OVC have nothing but praise for their academic home. In an online press release on the college’s website, Dean Elizabeth Stone shared her pleasure with the result, acknowledging how QS’s ranking contributes to the excellent reputation of the facility, and reinforces the success of its learner-focused approach.

“The ranking pays tribute to the high quality of our faculty, staff and students, and the relevance of the work they do to improve the health of animals, people and the environment,” said Stone in the release on April 30th.

Those currently attending the College would appear to agree. Second-year OVC student Emily Zakrajsek stated her appreciation for attending a school so highly recognized, and noted that the ranking “gives [OVC] both the privilege and responsibility to…continue to improve and make changes that are influential both in the veterinary education system, but also the profession as a whole.”
