Art attack provides a night to doodle and develop your artistic skills
Who could forget the excitement of watching Art Attack after coming home from school? Who could forget all the crazy ideas we learned? Of course, who could forget the friendly host, Neil Buchanan, guiding the audience along with ease. If that’s a struggle to remember, then can you recall the talking statue that always fumbled somewhere along the way making said creations? Growing older, we sometimes forget that we can still be artists, and that we can still be creative. In downtown Guelph, there is a solution to that.
Every Wednesday at DSTRCT lounge on the third floor, you can make some Art Attacks in your own life. The stairs are well worth the climb, as the music greets you and you see a group of people already diving into drawings, paintings, sculptures, jewellery, or some other creation. It doesn’t matter whether you can just doodle or you can paint a masterpiece, the third floor has a unique open concept vibe welcoming all participants.

Starting out in 2014, “Bang Out,” as put on by creative persistence, was a weekly event where artists would raffle off their night’s creations. Though the original creators put “Bang Out” on hold to pursue artistic opportunities, Art Attack is there to keep the good times and the art alive.
In the time since its inception, Wednesday nights at DSTRCT have seen a lot of action. There have been blanket-fort nights with hammocks and tents, themed nights including the Seven Deadly Sins, live music, and even custom button-making. With Art Attack, the goal is to give people a place to go to create and spread their art. If you have projects you are working on, want to be more artistic, or are looking to be submerged into a creative and friendly environment, then swing by and see for yourself. Perhaps you may get just a little bit of that feeling of those afternoons in front of the TV with your eyes and mind wide open.
