Dropping exclusively on OVO Sound radio show this past Sunday, Drake and Future, two of the most prominent rappers in current hip-hop, released a collaborative mixtape aptly titled, What A Time To Be Alive. With a heavy trap influence, the mixtape features two artists in their prime working together to create songs with incredible playability. To the dismay of some fans, WATTBA features production and instrumentals more suited towards Future’s ‘Atlanta trap’ style, rather than Drake’s signature sound. However, the two rappers effortlessly come together on a majority of the tracks to create consistent and honest music. That being said, the mixtape has a ton of replay value—on a critical level however, it provides nothing new. This is not necessarily a bad thing—but if you are looking for a grandiose, genre-defining LP, you are not going to find one. If you need an album to listen to at a party or in your car, look no further.
