Gryph N’ Grille chip truck heads to U of G campus

Burger and fries fans can look forward to a new culinary experience at the University of Guelph this fall semester. The Gryph N’Grille, the U of G’s own chip truck, opened on Sept. 14th to serve students the burgers and fries that they have been missing out on.
The University is already known for having an eclectic—not to mention delicious—selection of foods available from Hospitality Services. From the stone oven pizzas at Creelman, the cozy comfort food of the Bullring, the creative pub fare of Brass Taps, to the dependable late night eats at the Pit and Mountain—not to mention the legendary Bob’s Dogs—Guelph was already sitting pretty with the stomachs of student before the Grille came to campus.
It’s indisputable that Hospitality Services has already provided a fantastic selection of dining venues for students on campus. The inclusion of a food truck has only sweetened the allure of dining on campus.
Having a chip truck in such a convenient location means that student can now grab that little snack that can give them the energy to get through the day. Taking a closer look at the Grille’s menu, it’s apparent that the Gryph N’Grille is building off of a solid traditional chip truck selection, having all of the classics like hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, and pulled pork, with plenty of room for gastronomic expansion in the future.
Bonus points are given for the inclusion of a Vegan burger and hotdog on the menu. I had the pleasure of trying the burger and it’s a great alternative to add to the diverse veggie friendly menu on campus. The Grille is also active on social media, so check out their twitter @GryphNGrille or their Facebook page. The Grille’s presence on social media helps to keep their customers updated on where the chip truck will be for the day and their hours of operation.
When asked by The Portico about his thoughts on the success, so far, of the Gryph N’Grille, assistant food and retail services director Ed Townsley says that it’s been well received.
“The mobility of the truck may make it so that the Grille isn’t always the most convenient for every harried student’s schedule, but it’s an interesting way of getting food to the areas that have the hungriest Gryphons and a unique feature that further separates the U of G on campus food experience from other post-secondary institutions,” concluded Townsley.
