Guelph Public Library unveils new slogan, new logo

The Guelph Public Library has gotten a fresh new look courtesy of the Letter M Marketing, which designed a new logo. The Guelph Public Library unveiled the rebranding on Oct. 8, 2015. It’s been over 20 years since the library got a makeover, so the timing couldn’t be better.

“It’s time to update into this century,” said Steve Kraft, CEO of the Guelph Public Library.

The logo was designed by the Letter M Marketing—a company from Guelph. They also designed the City of Guelph’s logo back in 2007.  The Letter M had to bid on the contract against other companies in the area. There’s a heavy price to pay when it comes to spicing things up. The new library logo cost around $30,000 to design.

“Working with the Letter M Marketing was a dream,” said Kraft. “We did a survey to see what design people liked best.”

With the new logo also comes a new slogan: “Guelph Public Library, Explore, Connect, Thrive.” The new flashy logo contains a deeper meaning that most people are not aware of.

“The Guelph Library is a place where people come together to explore and connect,” said Dough MacMillan, president of The Letter M Marketing. “We wanted to show that dynamic energy that you get out of a library. It’s meant to imply a gathering place for people and ideas, of many things coming together.”

The logo was also designed in mind for people who don’t use English as their first language. Some people might not understand what the building represents.

“It appeals to people that might not understand what GPL stands for,” said Kraft.

The logo isn’t the only thing that’s changing at the library. Kraft is waiting to get approval from the city to open up a new main branch. The logo is supposed to slowly begin appearing on the outside of the libraries, but for now it’s being used solely on their website.
