Profit is what everyone is after to the great detriment of students. So here is a list of some of the tricks one can do with a very cheap, very accessible product: Baking soda. It is colourless, odourless, contains no fragrances or chemicals, and neutralizes acidic or alkaline substances. With all this in mind, there are a variety of practical applications for baking soda in everyday life.
Toothpaste
Combine half a cup of coconut oil, 2-3 tablespoons of baking soda, 2 small packets of stevia powder (sweetener), and 15-20 drops of peppermint essential oil. Stuff it all in a jar and dip your toothbrush into it whenever you need to use your very own homemade toothpaste.
Acne Treatment
Apply a mixture of baking soda and honey to your face for 15 minutes to help clear your skin. Rinse and voila!
Exfoliator
Three parts baking soda with one part water creates an exfoliator for your face and body that is gentle enough to be used every day.
Dry shampoo
Instead of spending a fortune on dry shampoo or even baby powder, simply sprinkle baking soda on your roots and you are ready to go! It is cheaper, and has the same results.
Dandruff
For those of you with a bad case of dandruff, toss shampoo aside for a while and scrub your scalp with a handful of baking soda instead while in the shower.
Shampoo
If you are going to ditch shampoo for a while, you may as well go cheap and ditch it forever. Two tablespoons of baking soda for every tablespoon of water works just as well.
Deodorant
Instead of spending on deodorant each month, simply pat some baking soda onto your pits. Again, it is cheaper, and just as effective.
Bug bites, sunburns, and poison ivy relief
Baking soda and a little water go a long way for these three. Simply apply it to the sore spot and let it do all the work.
Cleaning
To unclog the kitchen drain, pour a cup of baking soda followed by 1 cup of hot vinegar. You can also sprinkle it on the surface of your bath, sink, and tiles, then scrub it down with a damp cloth.
Sweat stains
For all those icky sweat stains, make a pasty combination of baking soda and water. Rub it into the stain, let it sit for an hour, and then toss it into the laundry.
Buy one box a month and you’re set. No more excessive spending on household and personal hygiene items. If you need additional proof, guess what they used to clean and restore the inner copper walls of the Statue of Liberty in 1986? Baking soda.
