Two annual surveys released on Oct. 15, 2015 revealed that the University of Guelph ranked among the top universities in Canada. In a survey published by Research Infosource, the university was ranked second among comprehensive universities under the “Research University of the Year” designation. Additionally, in the “Top 50 Research Universities” list, the University of Guelph was ranked second among comprehensive universities without a medial school.
“It is wonderful that the University of Guelph has strengethend its place among Canada’s top research universities,” said Malcolm Campbell, the vice-president of research at the university, in an Oct. 15, 2015 University of Guelph news release. “Research at Guelph builds on our phenomenal, traditional strengths, and extends to encompass a wide breadth of disciplines. Our research brings together faculty, staff, students, and a variety of stakeholders in collaborative investigation to create discoveries that truly matter.”
Research Infosource releases its rankings based on three categories: medical/doctoral, comprehensive, and undergraduate. Top ranks in the medical/doctoral category went to the University of Toronto, first place in the comprehensive category was awarded to the University of Waterloo, while the highest ranking undergraduate school was Lakehead University.
According to Research Infosource’s rankings for last year’s top research universities, second place under the 2014 comprehensive category was the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS) in Quebec.
Overall, the University of Guelph ranked 15th when compared to all schools, regardless of whether the institution had a defined medical school.
