A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of a missing vehicle and the death of University of Guelph graduate Grace Glofcheskie on Sunday morning.
Guelph police described the suspect as a 21-year-old male. On Dec. 15, 2015 six charges were laid, including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and criminal negligence causing death.
According to Guelph police, Glofcheskie was walking north on Woolwich Street on Sunday morning when she was struck and killed by a 2007 Ford Escape. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) explained that the driver of the vehicle failed to yield at a RIDE check station at Arthur Street North and Rose Street, on Dec. 13, 2015.
OPP officers quickly found the car crashed into a utility pole near Norwich Street East and Woolwich Street. The driver fled the scene, according to Guelph police.
Glofcheskie was grievously injured, and she was taken to Guelph General Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The 24-year-old Glofcheskie graduated with a bachelor’s in human kinetics in 2013. Glofcheskie recently completed a master’s degree from the University of Guelph in human health and nutritional sciences.
Glofcheskie worked as a part-time assistant coach helping student athletes, and was captain of the Guelph Gryphon’s golf team in 2013.
The University of Guelph’s flags will be at half-mast on the day of Glofcheskie’s funeral, in memory of her time as a Gryphon.
