This Week on the Internet

A glorious year ahead for the Harry Potter Universe

In 2016, a new play and movie taking place in the Harry Potter universe will open, and J.K. Rowling continues to release new information about the wizarding world.

For four days straight beginning Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, J.K. Rowling’s new info about the wizarding world stayed on the top of the Facebook trending chart.

Check the mail for your delayed acceptance letters. Nothing yet? Well, maybe one day. The good news is that a newly publicized wizarding school is right around the corner.

You were likely never going to attend Hogwarts, but rather, the wizarding school of Ilvermorny—if you live in North America that is. Not much is known about the new schools for witches and wizards around the world, but we can expect details to be teased out over Pottermore, by the Queen, J.K. Rowling herself.

Of the 11 schools now in the official Harry Potter canon, information about three others have been released. Uagadou is in Uganda, Mahoutokoro is off the shores of Japan, and the South American school for witches and wizards is Castelobruxo.

In addition to the world building info that has been passed out, is an abundance of new info about the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. In the new behind the scenes clips, costume designer, set makers and producers are explaining the choices behind each element, and how it fits smoothly into the established HP universe.

Not only is there a movie coming out this year that takes place in the HP universe, but the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be coming to the London stage this July. The story takes place after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and is focused around Harry and Ginny’s son, Albus, as he attempts to deal with the pressures of fame while at Hogwarts.

The Cursed Child was prominently featured in the news in late 2015, when the main cast was revealed. Fans rejoiced when Dumezweni was selected for the role of Hermione. This play is being branded as the eighth Harry Potter story and will be premiering July 30, 2016.

Not so long ago, fans (like me) lined up outside cinema doors, to give Harry Potter a final send off. 2016 is the year of the comeback for the wizarding world, and our world is ready for the ride.
