City of Guelph awards contract for police headquarters renovation
On Feb. 2, 2016, the City of Guelph announced that it had officially awarded the contract for the renovation of the Guelph Police Service headquarters. Jasper Construction Corp., based out of Concord, Ontario, will be responsible for renovating Guelph police headquarters.
The project will cost approximately $26 million. The City has allocated $34 million for the project.
“We are ready to proceed with the construction of the new Guelph Police Service headquarters, in partnership with the City of Guelph,” said Police Chief Jeff DeRuyter, in a Feb. 2, 2016 news release. “We are pleased to be on budget and remain committed to the completion of a successful project that meets the needs of our community and our members.”
The project is estimated to begin within the next six to eight weeks.
Premier Kathleen Wynne concludes trade mission to India
On Feb. 5, 2016, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne concluded a historic trip to India. The mission that began, on Jan. 31, 2016, was to strengthen economic, political, and cultural ties with the world’s third-largest economy.
Premier Wynne, joined by a delegation of ministers, traveled to four Indian cities—New Delhi, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, and Mumbai—to promote Ontario as a global trading partner.
“Ontario and India have much in common—we are both committed to making record-breaking infrastructure investments that will create jobs and strengthen our economies, we both understand the urgency and necessity of creating a sustainable future, and we both know that we need a well-educated workforce to meet the challenges of the future,” said Premier Wynne, in a Jan. 27, 2016 news release.
Premier Wynne concluded the trip in Mumbai, where 16 new agreements were forged between Ontario and India. A total of 65 agreements valued at over $240 million are expected to create 150 “high-value” jobs in Ontario.
