Exploring Rebecca Daggett and Grace Esford’s Perception in the Zavitz Gallery
Perception is all about how we see things, and Grace Esford and Rebecca Daggett’s show Perception hit the nail on the head! Featuring paintings, wall drawings, prints and projections to show us just how many ways we can see the world through art, Perception ran from February 8 to 12 at the Zavitz Gallery. The exhibit caught the eye of students in and out of the Studio Art program. Science students played with the 3D glasses (needed for viewing Esford’s “Digital Decay” piece) as Humanities students tilted their heads to figure out Daggett’s “01.05.2016 Side A” piece.
Esford created her own 3D camera for her work “Digital Decay.” It was such a success that the School of Fine Arts and Music (SOFAM) featured Grace, in all her genius, on their YouTube channel.
Daggett is the Collections Management Assistant for the Art Gallery of Guelph and an amazing painter. She created the massive painting “This Is Where We Met” in the painting studio and I was lucky enough to see it come together. Esford was there throughout Daggett’s painting process.
“It’s useful having Grace in the painting studio,” said Daggett.
Daggett also inspires Esford exchanging artists of interest and works pertaining to each other’s practices via Facebook. The two artists also work together in lithography and painting classes here in Guelph.
Zavitz Gallery is open Monday to Friday and features different shows every week during the school year.
