Album of the Week

Artist: Alanis Morissette

Album: Jagged Little Pill

Just over 20 years ago, Canadian artist Alanis Morissette left more than just a mark on the music industry with her third studio album, Jagged Little Pill. Released in 1995, not only did this album spit out six singles, but it also won four Grammy Awards for Morissette at just 21 years of age—at the time this made her the youngest artist in history to win Album of the Year (later to be reclaimed by Taylor Swift, at age 20). The album also immediately won six Juno Awards, with more to come in later years. Many have credited Jagged Little Pill’s success with paving the way for female vocalists in the early millennium, including Michelle Branch, Pink, and Avril Lavigne.

With songs like “All I Really Want,” “Ironic,” “You Oughta Know,” “Hand In My Pocket,” and “You Learn,” Morissette let’s it all hang out in this raw, intensely personal record that somehow manages to put into words the most painful, practically unspeakable, parts of life’s everyday obstacles.
