Year in Review: The Ontarion’s staff picks 2015-2016

Empowering female fellowship

Throughout this past year, The Ontarion has put out a great variety of interesting centre stories. Some were light-hearted, while others were eye-opening in the sense that they provided a great deal of insight on the inner workings of the University of Guelph, the greater Guelph community, and beyond. Of the numerous centres that were published this past year, the one that stands out the most to me is the International Women’s Day centre story that was published on March 10, 2016.

I love that this centre showcases strong female role models—women who are unapologetically intelligent and successful—who have ties to Guelph. I think that it’s incredibly important for women to have strong female role models; it’s empowering, and having them in the media only furthers this female empowerment.

Essentially, this story can be viewed as being representative of the affirmative and inclusive environment that is so important to the U of G community being furthered through The Ontarion. It is because this centre shows this, in addition to the fact that it heartens a personal sense of pride and camaraderie (being that it was a collaborative effort between the members of the editorial staff), that makes it special.
