U of G offers both on and off-campus lifetime benefits
I’ve been a U of G alumnus for about a year now, and let me tell you, I’m all about the perks. Just in case you’re one of those people who immediately toss away all of those super informative pamphlets that one receives at their graduation ceremony, here is a list of the benefits that you are entitled to after graduation.
On-campus benefits:
Alumni card
As a graduate of the U of G, you automatically become a member of UGAA (University of Guelph Alumni Association) which grants you a free alumni card after graduation. This card can be ordered online or in person at the Alumni Person.
Athletics membership discount
Alumni are entitled to a discounted membership at the campus Athletic Centre.
Free library access
All alumni are granted free, lifetime access to the McLaughlin Library, including access to over 4000 e-journals. Library cards can be obtained in-person or online, and can only be accessed after registering for the alumni card (mentioned above).
Co-op & Career Services
Graduates can create alumni accounts with U of G’s Co-operative Education & Career Services. Career services are offered to all alumni at any point in life, whether it be a mid-career change or a fresh-out-of-university job hunt.
20 per cent discount on continuing education
U of G alumni have access to a variety of con ed resources, including online or in-person courses at a 20 per cent discounted rate. The learning doesn’t have to end after graduation!
The Portico magazine
The Portico is the U of G’s alumni magazine that publishes three times per year. Every U of G graduate is entitled to a free subscription to The Portico.
Off-campus:
Discounts on insurance
All U of G alumni are offered a discount on home and car insurance through TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, as well as a discount on insurance through Manulife Financial.
Alumni credit card
The University of Guelph Alumni MasterCard and MBNA Platinum Plus offer a variety of benefits and rewards services for alumni.
Special promotional discounts
There are a number of promotional discounts offered to alumni, including discounts in retail, sports, attractions (ie. Canada’s Wonderland), restaurants, and more. More information can be found on the U of G’s website or at alumni services.
