Student life on the big screen
Movies made about university life are often exaggerated to the point of being absolutely unrealistic. Even these films based around true events may not be completely accurate, but they do tell inspirational stories that might just spark some motivation during your time at university.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
Will Hunting discovers his gift for numbers while working as a janitor at MIT. Not knowing his full potential, Will is taken in by a professor and psychologist who help him find his way.
The Great Debaters (2007)
Professor Melvin Tolson rallies together the first ever debate team to represent Wiley College at the national championship against Harvard, meanwhile facing issues of racism and sexism in the public eye in 1935.
Kill Your Darlings (2013)
Before becoming some of the greatest writers and poets of the beat generation, Allen Ginsberg meets Lucien Carr and William Burroughs at Columbia University where they rebel against the system, experiment with drugs and sex, and befriend former football all star Jack Kerouac.
Rudy (1993)
Unsatisfied by his job at a power plant, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger is determined to play football for Notre Dame despite his poor grades and athleticism. With a lot of hard work and patience, Rudy finally finds himself out on the field.
The Social Network (2010)
Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg codes “thefacebook,” a social networking site that quickly gains popularity across several college campuses and leads to a string of lawsuits and struggles to maintain personal relationships.
The Theory of Everything (2014)
Bright cosmology student Stephen Hawking meets arts student Jane Wilde at Cambridge University, sparking a young love affair. When Stephen is diagnosed with a fatal deteriorating illness, Jane decides to stand by him as he pursues his groundbreaking studies in physics.
We Are Marshall (2006)
A tragic plane crash kills several players, coaches, and fans of Marshall University’s football team, leading to the decision to cancel the program. Surviving team member Nate Ruffin recruits Jack Lengyel to coach to a new crop of players and keep the spirit of the team alive in the 1971 season.
