The women’s rugby team upset top-ranked McMaster in the OUA championship final to claim their first title since 2012. The team are headed in as favourites at the national championships happening in Victoria from Nov. 4 to 5.
Football vs. McMaster OUA quarterfinal
Gryphons 11, Marauders 17
The Gryphons’ football team fell short in a heartbreaking loss to McMaster. This loss means that Guelph will have to wait until next year to attempt to regain their past powerhouse status.
Field hockey vs. University of Toronto OUA final
Gryphons 2, Varsity Blues 3
The field hockey team lost in the dying minutes of the game as Toronto kept the banner for their third consecutive year. The Gryphons will compete in the CIS championships in Toronto from Nov. 3 to 6. Third year forward, Olivia Lane, was named the 2016 OUA MVP and will look to help Guelph medal at the national championships.
Women’s soccer vs. Western OUA quarterfinal
Gryphons 0 (2), Mustangs 0 (4)
Guelph women’s soccer ended their season in a penalty shootout loss to Western on Sunday. Despite a solid regular season, the Gryphons could not find the net in the 120-minute showdown. The team will look to keep building for next season.
Men’s soccer vs. McMaster OUA quarterfinal
Gryphons 3, Marauders 1
The men’s soccer team dominated their quarterfinal game against McMaster to top off their best regular season in years. The Gryphons will play in the OUA semi-final against Ryerson on Nov. 5.
Cross country OUA championships
The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the OUA championships with the women’s team taking home their 13 consecutive OUA title. The men’s team finished with a bronze medal performance.
Rowing OUA championships
Third-year single sculler, Carly Zanatta, had an outstanding performance for the Gryphons, finishing with a bronze and a gold medal.
