Lady Gaga’s newest album Joanne, released in October of this year, has a surprising and much-welcomed new sound. The pop sensation, usually known for her absurd outfits and upbeat sound, has taken a very serene approach to her new album, named for her late aunt.
Songs such as the titular track “Joanne,” “Million Reasons,” and “Angel Down,” showcase Lady Gaga’s songwriting ability and wide vocal range. These new tracks leave the listener ensconced in what I can only describe as the Gaga I’ve been waiting for: the Gaga that is reminiscent to her pre-pop star days; the Gaga that isn’t hidden behind a record label’s image of her.
For those of you who loved the lively dance tracks on her previous albums—do not fear! “A-YO” and “Diamond Heart” are sure to keep your toes tapping.
