Legendary status on the horizon for the Gryphons
The University of Guelph’s brilliant football team has made yet another excellent decision. After their extremely successful season ended, the team began searching for the next big name player to bring into the Gryphon family.
Although the football team is already bursting with undeniable talent, a new running back would be just the thing to carry them to endless glory.
Rumours had been circulating since the conclusion of their season, and now, those rumours can finally be put to bed.
The football team has secured American talent, Buddy McMaster for their 2017 season. McMaster, a mid-year transfer from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), will meet up with the Gryphons at their February training camp over reading week.

McMaster is a small, dynamic player who is likely to create havoc and ruff up a storm for the Gryphons. He is known for his unique style and has a real thirst for the ball, as he will follow it wherever it gets thrown.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Buddy to our team,” said head coach Joseph Jonas in an interview with The Contrarion. “We have been succeeding recently, but it was time to add a new kind of athlete to this team.”
“Other teams should be worried to come up against us in 2017, Buddy is the type of player that no one knows how to play defense on.”
In bringing McMaster to Guelph, the Gryphons have made history. Guelph has become the first Canadian university to have a Golden Retriever competing as a varsity athlete.
It may seem ludicrous to some to bring a dog into the fold of an already fantastic football team, but this is one special puppy. McMaster, who grew up in Hollywood, will bring a real spark to the team. He brings an exemplary set of experiences to the squad, boasting a multisport background.
McMaster grew up chasing tennis balls and Frisbees until one day he was recruited for a local soccer team. Buddy continued his high school career competing for the basketball team, volleyball team, and even joined the baseball team in his final year. Finally, in university, he discovered his true passion: football. Passion is a big part of the game and Buddy is bound to bark up a storm of it.
McMaster will join the Guelph Gryphons after one year at UCLA, and according to Coach Jonas, he will also be good for team moral.
“Buddy is a special dog, his retrieving skills are formidable, and I don’t doubt that he will also bring happiness and cuddles to the guys on the team.”
Whatever the 2017 season brings for the Gryphons, there is no doubting that it will be a historic one.
