CSA board answers executive’s call to action
We are excited, united, and appreciative in the decision made by the Central Student Association (CSA) board, who voted in favour of the CSA executive restructuring on Jan. 18, 2017.
The CSA board is made up of a diverse group of directors who represent and advocate for the needs of our undergraduate students. This was evident in the Jan. 18 board meeting, where 25 out of 30 directors voted in favour of the structural change proposed by current CSA commissioners. This tells us that the challenges the CSA is currently facing can be overcome through cooperation and open communication.
The motion brought forward to remove the executive voting rights for the CSA board of directors (BOD) will allow future executive members to be guided by the BOD more accurately and efficiently. It will also prevent future executives from controlling the outcome for their personal agendas. As the CSA directors are students—and speak for students—it is important that the future decisions made by the BOD are not swayed by executive votes.
Additionally, the reduction of CSA executives will allow the CSA to hire more permanent support staff. This new structure will ensure that the executive members’ personal goals are not the only focus of those executives; that students’ needs are not ignored, but are a priority.
This decision was proposed by utilizing past internal and external research, in combination with consultation with current directors, current students, and current executives. In doing so, the CSA gained a better understanding of the needs and culture of our campus and community.
The CSA would not be who we are or where we are today if it were not for the love and support of our campus and community. Thank you!
