News brief: U of G mourns passing of student

The University of Guelph will fly its flags at half-mast on Feb. 3 to mourn the passing of Kayleigh Shannon, a second-year biomedical engineering student.

After her family informed the University that she died in her sleep on Jan. 24 due to medical complications, fellow students painted the cannon purple in memory of Shannon.

According to the University’s news release, a visitation will take place on Feb. 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, along with a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Feb. 4 at the same location.

The University’s administration reminds the community that counselling services are available by appointment as well as drop-in services and after-hours resources.
