Album of the Week

Four years after their self-titled debut and three years after their mega-hit “Ho Hey” launched them into stardom, The Lumineers released Cleopatra, their second studio album.

Following on the heels of Mumford and Sons, The Lumineers are taking over the world of folk-pop with their toe-tapping, acoustic sound. While the melodies are Billboard worthy, the album is dominated by its distinct characters and powerful storytelling; Angela, Ophelia, and the title-sharing Cleopatra are among the women we get to know over the course of the album. While songs like “Sleep on the Floor,” “Stubborn Love,” and “Cleopatra” have the infectious hand-clapping beat we’ve come to know of The Lumineers, it is the captivating lyrics and beautiful melodies of “Gun Song” and “Angela” that keep us coming back for more.
