Referendum question passed
The results for the Central Student Association (CSA) general election were announced on Thursday, March 9. According to the CSA’s social media profiles, over 4400 students voted during this election period.
The results at this time are unofficial prior to ratification, but have been tallied as follows.
Jay Rojas was not elected as president of the CSA with 2065 votes against, 1962 votes in favour, and 423 members declining their vote.A by-election will be held in the fall semester to select a president for the upcoming academic year.
Emily Vance, the current external affairs commissioner, has been elected as the vice president of student experience with 2130 votes. Vance’s opponent Jack Wang received 1651 votes and 669 voters declined to cast their ballot.
Becca Cheskes has been elected as vice president academic with 1881 votes. Kate Schievink received 1748 votes and 821 declined.
Of the three candidates running for vice president external, Kayla Weiler was elected to the position with 1608 votes. Chelsea Mulvale was the runner-up with 1373 votes, Devlin Scanlon received 575 votes, and 894 members declined.
Six representatives were also elected to the board of directors.Natalie Chow and Ryan Bowes were re-elected as Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) and College of Social and Applied Human Sciences respectively. Chirag Patney, who currently sits on the board as the representative from Interhall Council, has been elected as the representative for the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC).
Bella Harris was elected as the representative for the College of Arts, Raymond Hu as the representative for the College of Biological Sciences, and Tony Stortz as the representative for the College of Management and Economics.
A referendum question was also posed to the CSA membership during this election.The question was whether students would support an increase of $0.90 to their student fees so that menstrual products may be distributed on campus for the fall 2017 semester. The referendum question passed with 3427 votes in favour, 807 against, and 216 voters declining.
