Album of the week

Maggie Rogers, a music student at New York University, takes the listener on a journey of self-discovery through her true, unique sound on her EP Now That the Light is Fading.

The opening track “Color Song” introduces Rogers’s folk background as she layers her voice over and over again, creating a silky acapella harmony. Next, Rogers takes the listener into the world of folktronica with her single “Alaska.” With simple lyrics and a groovy upbeat melody, this is the perfect song to let the troubles of your day fade away.

From there, Rogers swings into funky vibes with “On + Off” and “Dog Years.” Her layered harmonies and unique instrumentation make this EP special and demonstrate her talent as a musician and producer.

The EP finishes its journey with the hypnotic track “Better,” a slow and spellbinding track that leaves the listener wanting more. Embedded in this journey is a unique folk-pop sound that Rogers will certainly hone in on further for her eventual debut album.
