Owner hopes to give back to U of G students
The University Centre’s new pharmacy opened for business on Dec. 4, 2017. The UC pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and provides full prescription drug service as well as additional over-the-counter items available for your everyday needs.
The opening of the pharmacy conveniently aligns with the province of Ontario’s new OHIP+ legislation, which provides over 4,000 pharmaceuticals free of charge to residents of Ontario under the age of 25. For items not covered by OHIP+, customers of the UC pharmacy can pay by credit, debit, or cash. Student cards will not be accepted.
In an interview with The Ontarion, the pharmacy’s owner, Srdjan Sucevic, explained why he opened the pharmacy: “I think there’s a good opportunity for me as a pharmacist and a great service for students and employees of the university.”

Sucevic immigrated to Canada in 1993 because his wife was a student at the University of Guelph. He and his family have lived in Guelph ever since. He explained that, “I would like to give back to the university in the way of providing some sort of scholarship. It’s to be worked out, but it’s a part of my contract.”
Sucevic also mentioned that U of G is one of the few Canadian universities that do not have a pharmacy on campus. While there has been a pharmacy on campus in the past, there has not been one since 1998. Sucevic shared that he is happy to fill the void and provide this service for the U of G community.
