Apricity album review: The warmth of the sun in winter

Harrison shares his good vibes with us

Following Harrison’s debut LP Checkpoint Titanium, Apricity was released on Oct. 12. This album is defined as “the warmth of the sun in winter,” representing his emergence from depression as well as providing the tone of the record. The album, produced by Harrison, features artists such as Ralph and Daniela Andrade, and collaborates with BADBADNOTGOOD’s Matty Tavares, iaamSaam, and other producers.

The first track, “Celica Supra,” sets the tone of the album. It’s an energetic track that combines ’80s synth and electronic funk. The following track, “Atmosphere,” features vocals from Andrade. The track has an upbeat tune and merges synth with the keyboard beautifully. “Next Blue” and “Wavestation” are tracks that pull the listener into the mind of Harrison and makes the listener feel like they’re on top of the world. Tracks such as “Believe in Love” and “Your Girl” rely on the vocals of their respective artists, Aaron Tiem and Ralph, to create a soothing and relaxing tune. Overall, the music is meant to develop a sense of bliss for its listeners and it does so successfully.

The ’80s and synth inspire the setting of Apricity, but Harrison introduces his spin to it by implementing elements of hip-hop and funk. Apricity is soothing but strong. It’s relaxing but fast-paced. It’s a blast to the past but feels modern. Vocals bring a new setting to the album and pair wonderfully with the production. It’s reminiscent of artists such as Daft Punk and Majid Jordan, but Harrison builds upon his previous work and inspirations to tell us a story. The record is an otherworldly experience that takes you on a trip. So sit back and enjoy the ride.
