What do I want for Christmas this year?

A  stocking full of current events and despair

I want Santa to slip and hit his head coming down the chimney and, upon waking up, become momentarily conscious of the injustice of this dystopia we are living in. And, in a moment of inspired rapture, begin to hand out letters instead of gifts. Letters detailing the horrific history of current events.  Letters such as…

Situation: Yemen

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Did you know Yemen is being bombarded by Saudi Arabia with support from the U.S.? They are killing many, many adults and children. There are millions of Yemenis on the verge of famine. There are millions of people at risk of dying of starvation. Children are so malnourished they do not even have the strength to cry!

Situation: Honduran Human Caravan

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Did you know the U.S. intervened in Honduran politics in the 1980s and used Honduras as a military base to invade neighbouring countries like Nicaragua?

Did you know about the intelligence battalion 3-16? Google it!

Did you know the U.S. murdered six Jesuit priests in El Salvador along with their maid and her daughter, allegedly because they were outspoken critics of the U.S. and their liberation theology hoped to spread socialism, which prevented U.S. corporations from profiting?

Did you know that in 2009 the U.S. played a supportive role in Honduras when a military coup ousted  democratically elected president Zelaya?

But Santa won’t hand out such letters this year instead of gifts, Santa won’t slip and fall down the chimney, and Christmas will pass by just the same as every other year. He will put gifts under trees, drink his milk and cookies and go back up his chimney, scared to death of losing his once-a-year part-time gig, increasingly threatened by cheaper, more educated Santas from all over the world.

Humbug.
