Elizabeth May Steps Down

ELIZABETH MAY ANNOUNCED on Monday, Nov. 4, that she is stepping down as leader of the Green Party, a post she has held since 2006.

“This is not something that is a new decision,” May told reporters, adding that she is excited to be able to spend time with her family. May will remain the parliamentary leader of the Green Party caucus. May intends to stay on as the member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands.

The Green party holds a total of three seats in Parliament.

May’s interim replacement will be Jo-Ann Roberts. Roberts, a former Journalist, and CBC Radio host, was (until today) the deputy leader of the party.
