Earlier this afternoon, a masked person carved “Death to the CPC” into The Cannon in Branion Plaza. This came after a confrontation that began with students painting “Free Hong Kong” on The Cannon late Monday evening.
When asked to make a statement by reporters from The Ontarion, the person responded with “thanks, no thanks.”
After a few minutes, they came back up to the reporters and said “no fascists on campus, there’s your statement.”
As of 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the message carved on The Cannon had been covered by paper. Pro-Hong Kong students told The Ontarion that they wished to avoid a misunderstanding and that the masked vandal did not speak for them
