President Donald Trump posted a video to Twitter last night conceding the election to President-elect Joe Biden following a violent assault on the U.S. Capitol Building.

Trump’s most recent statement runs counter to his video released on Jan. 6, since removed from social media platforms, where he repeated his voter fraud claims and asked the “patriots” to go home peacefully.

Trump has stated since the posting of both videos that he will not be attending the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden on Jan. 20, 2021.

On Jan. 6 many watched in horror as the events unfolded at the State Capitol, and many have been critical of Trump for his words that have been said to have “incited” the riot.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh tweeted during the riot:

“The horror unfolding in Washington is frightening and it was incited by Donald Trump. He can end it now, but refuses to. Democracy must not be intimidated. The violence must end.”

There have been talks of whether Vice-President Mike Pence will enact the 25th amendment of the U.S. constitution removing Trump from office.

Pence has expressed his opposition to the move, however, Trump could still face removal as “a majority of Democrats appear poised to initiate impeachment proceedings,” CBC reports.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called Trump “deadly to our democracy and our people,” and has arranged with the top U.S. general to prevent Trump from accessing any nuclear launch codes in his final days as president.

In regards to nuclear weapons, Trump’s mental state has not elicited any public statements of concern from top military or national security officials.
