Students, staff, and faculty can expect four new programs of study and a colour-coded parking system

The U of G has announced various items of information following its June 7 senate meeting along with changes to parking and an update on its presidential search.
At the university’s latest senate meeting, four new programs, two new majors, four new minors, and a number of policy changes were introduced.
Come fall 2021, undergraduates will have additional program options: the bachelor of one health program and minor; a major and minor in sexualities, genders and social change; a major in creative writing; a minor in linguistics; and a minor in Black Canadian studies.
Graduate students will also see some new programs: the master of data science; the master of dairy technology management; the PhD in computer science; and the collaborative specialization in sexualities, genders and bodies.
More information on the programs can be found here.
Policy changes affecting undergraduate examinations and credit/no credit grading, as well as the creation of a new credit/no credit grading option for graduate students, were also introduced.
Beginning this fall, undergraduate 1000 and 2000 level courses will no longer hold any two-hour, sit-down exams.
Regarding credit/no credit grading options, undergraduate students will see updated regulations, whereas for graduate students, the grading option will be newly available. For more information regarding credit/no credit grading options and additional policy changes, see here.
During the pandemic, parking fees were waived for all staff, faculty, and students. Come Sept. 1, 2021, they will be reinstated under new conditions.
Parking lots will now be available for paid student, faculty, and staff use regardless of location.
The lots will be labelled one of three colours depending on the level of convenience to amenities. There will be black (premium interior), red (basic interior) and yellow (value perimeter) lots to buy permits for the year, semester or month.
Red and yellow lot permits grant parking in the respective colour and have spots on a first-come, first-served basis. A black lot permit guarantees a spot in a black lot for individuals to use 24/7 as well as access to parking in red and yellow lots.
Virtual permits and cashless payments will replace physical permits and cash. Permits will go on sale July 12 and can be purchased on the parking services website. More information on parking changes is available here.
On Monday, the U of G’s presidential candidate brief was finalized.
According to a news release, the brief offers prospective president and vice-chancellor candidates a general overview of the University, and an overview of each respective role along with the key qualifications needed.
Using the brief as a tool, the presidential selection committee will review and interview candidates later this month, with the goal of U of G’s ninth president taking office in the summer of 2022. The selected candidates for president and vice-chancellor will be announced this fall.
Members of the U of G community are encouraged to email the presidential selection committee with any questions they have at universityappts@uoguelph.ca.
