Drivers caught parking on city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. could face a $35 fine

As of Dec. 1, overnight parking restrictions will take effect in the streets of Guelph.
The restrictions, which will not be lifted until April 1, prevent drivers from parking on city streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Failure to comply with these restrictions could result in a $35 ticket, and any vehicles parked on the streets during these hours may be towed at the owner’s additional expense.
Residents living outside of the city’s downtown core who need to park on the streets overnight are able to apply for short-term exemptions through the city’s online parking portal.
One exemption is valid for two consecutive nights of overnight parking and may be used for a maximum of two vehicles. Each applicable residence is allowed to apply for a maximum of 12 parking exemptions per year.
However, exemptions can be suspended by the city if weather conditions become poor. In the case of a snowfall of six or more centimetres, exemptions will be suspended for 48 hours. When exemptions are cancelled, residents are encouraged to relocate their vehicles to a municipal parking lot downtown or to city arena parking.
Although inconvenient, adhering to these parking restrictions ensures that plows are able to keep the roads clear and safe for other residents once the snow begins to fall.
To keep up to date with the latest updates, residents can sign up for plow-out alerts at guelph.ca/snow. A live plow tracker can also be found at this link, allowing residents to see where city plows are headed and plan their travels accordingly.
