Classes that have already transitioned to in-person learning will remain as they are, while other courses will continue virtually until Jan. 31

In consultation with Public Health, the University of Guelph has decided to extend remote learning for some winter semester courses.
According to a U of G news release sent out on Jan. 14, some labs and studios have already resumed in-person learning, since the format is critical for their learning objectives. These courses will continue to be delivered in-person.
“Learning and working together in person are critical to mental health and well-being for many students, faculty, staff and other members of our U of G community,” reads the release. “In-person learning and working also have a positive impact on learning outcomes and are a fundamental part of the student experience at U of G.”
However, other courses that are not dependent on the in-person format will remain remote until Jan. 31. U of G suggests that students should plan for this change accordingly.
“Our priority is to preserve the quality of the academic, research and student experience while keeping our University and communities safe.”
While the winter semester course enrollment period is keeping its Jan. 14 deadline, students will be able to request late additions through their respective program counselors and instructors.
In addition, the 100 per cent tuition refund deadline has been extended to Jan. 23. A refund can be requested or inquired about via accquest@uoguelph.ca.
U of G also states that “everyone who can get vaccinated [should] do so,” as vaccination continues to be one of the most effective tools for protecting against COVID-19. The university currently holds a 96 per cent vaccination rate, which it says will help ensure a safe return to in-person courses.
The University will continue its discussions with local public health experts to monitor COVID-19 trends and developments, and current pandemic guidelines and restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
