Destroyer puts on a show for Kazoo! Fest 2014

Fans eagerly gathered in downtown Guelph to witness Destroyer’s performance

On Friday, April 11, Destroyer (solo – Dan Bejar) put on a show for Kazoo! Fest at the Dublin Street United Church. The church was packed as fans gathered around pews and made use of minimal floor space in eager anticipation of the performance. Destroyer captivated the crowd with a one-man acoustic show, opening the night with “My Favorite Year” from his 8th album, Trouble In Dreams.
Destroyer’s performance created an atmosphere unlike any other – Bejar claimed the stage as his own, and won the undivided attention of his crowd with an unmistakable sense of humour and a distinctive stage presence.
The acoustic aspect of Bejar’s performance allowed for the lyrics of Destroyer’s songs to shine through, shedding light on his great ability as a songwriter. Bejar’s timbre was reflective of David Bowie, which has been a common comparison amongst reviewers of his shows.
Destroyer’s performance of “Foam Hands” from Trouble In Dreams was a crowd favourite. With 10 studio albums and one more on the way, he gave the crowd a taste of new material from his upcoming album.
“I wanna thank you all for coming out,” he said to the crowd nearing the end of his show, “and thank Kazoo for asking me to come out.”
Bejar closed the show with a mesmerizing performance of “Virgin With A Memory” from his fourth studio album Streethawk: A Seduction.
At the end of the show, fans dispersed in search of the next venue Kazoo! Fest had to offer. By the sound of the crowd’s applause, Destroyer’s performance was a successful concert that was part of Kazoo! Fest’s killer lineup. Many thanks to Kazoo! for organizing a successful festival, Guelph music fanatics are already excited for what they will have in store for 2015.
