Travis Scott’s highly anticipated debut album delighted fans upon its release in early September. Delivering a solid and refreshing track list, Scott’s album subtly toes the line between trap and hip-hop by consistently echoing the atmospheric and bass-heavy instrumentals from his early career. With songs like “Oh My Dis Side” and “Nightcrawler,” the level of detail placed into the production of every track on the album is evident. The standout tracks from the album include “90210,” which weaves the narrative of an individual’s hedonistic pursuit, and “Maria, I’m Drunk,” a solemn song that transitions from gorgeous percussion and piano, to a catchy hook by Young Thug. This album, albeit mellow and slow at times, marks Scott’s attempt to find his creative self—and with one of the most cohesive hip-hop projects of the year, Scott has accomplished just that.
