Fall television forecast

As students return to the classroom this Fall, a number of exciting new television series are set to make their debut over the next few weeks. Whether your favorite genre is horror, drama, reality, or comedy, the lineup for this fall’s TV schedule will have you looking forward to those brief (and sometimes not so brief) study breaks.
This season a number of new series are being launched, but with a twist. Several of the new programs set to debut this fall are movie spinoffs. Limitless, based off of the 2011 film starring Bradley Cooper, will follow a similar storyline when a man takes a drug that allows him to access 100 percent of his brain. Minority Report, another series titled the same as its 2002 movie counterpart, will be set 15 years after the original movie and follow a man using his secret ability to predict the future to stop crimes. Limitless is set to premiere Sept. 22 and Minority Report on Sept. 21, both on Global.
Several other movie-to-television series are in the works for early 2016, including romantic drama The Notebook and childhood favorite School of Rock. Another trend this fall is TV series spinoffs, with Heroes Reborn offering up a new set of heroes working as a continuation of the original sci-fi series titled Heroes, which ended in 2010.  Perhaps the most popular TV spinoff this fall is Fear the Walking Dead, a new series acting as a prequel and companion to the original zombie apocalypse series, The Walking Dead. Heroes Reborn will premiere Sept. 24 on Global and Fear the Walking Dead had its start Aug. 23 on AMC.
While TV and film spinoffs can often be hit or miss, some great options for a completely new series are as follows. If you were a fan of Sons of Anarchy, you may be interested in tuning into The Bastard Executioner, a 14th century period drama from the creator of Sons of Anarchy, following a knight who must lay down his sword in exchange for the blood-covered executioner’s ax. The Bastard Executioner can be found Sept. 15 on FX. Blood and Oil, a new series premiering on ABC Sept. 27, holds some interest with Don Johnson playing an oil tycoon during a modern-day oil boom, while Chace Crawford plays one half of the ambitious young couple trying to cash in on the oil boom. On a lighter note, several new comedies are also creating buzz, such as Grandfathered. The new series premiering Sept. 29 on CityTV stars John Stamos as a playboy restaurateur who discovers he not only has a son, played by Josh Peck, but also has a granddaughter. This season overall has a promising lineup of new television shows.
Although fall is the best time to experiment with a new series, it is nice to enjoy shows you know you can count on for entertainment. Among the most highly anticipated returning series are, The Mindy Project, Scandal, Homeland, The Big Bang Theory, and Criminal Minds. These shows all have gained popularity from previous seasons and will most definitely draw faithful viewers towards their fall returns. Whether you will strictly be sticking with the shows you know and love, or find yourself switching things up with a new series, this fall’s television lineup will be sure not to disappoint.
