Slow cooking for non-magical persons

With the allure of the internet, the pressure of academics, and disgustingly messy roommates, many people can not find the time or space to make a delicious meal. Here is the stone cold, arresto momentum truth—you need a slow cooker.

Crock-pot is actually a brand name that has somehow become intertwined with everyday English like Kleenex. The magic words we are looking for are: slow cooker.

You might be thinking; my grandma uses the slow cooker all the time and she’s no Hermione Granger. Well you’re right, Hermione Granger, played by Emma Watson is not your grandma, but they are both pulling magic tricks on us. Little did you know, that the precious meal your gram (Grandma, Nona, Oma, Savta, Nonna) just presented was made at 9 a.m., while she was hung-over after a long night of bridge with the neighbours.

It is possible to slow cook with excellence while only using a knife and slow cooker. There is no need to clean your roommate’s dishes to make the pulled pork of your dreams. When it’s negative 20 in the thrust of a polar vortex, no one has time to deal with that. Instead, find a spot literally anywhere in your house with an outlet and add the following ingredients: one shoulder pork roast, three cups of your favourite barbecue sauce, one quarter cup of brown sugar, one quarter cup of water and hot sauce to taste.  Turn the dial to low, put the lid on, set an alarm on your phone for the end of your workday, and walk away like a movie star after an explosion just happened.

When you finally get home from your less than magical day, you will arrive to the beautiful smell of stringy pulled pork. From here, you’ve got some options. You could grab two pieces of white bread, mustard, cheese, and go to town on a sandwich or, perhaps, you are truly a cunning Slytherin, and instead will decide that your pulled pork is best served on top of a frozen pizza.
