Best places to nap on campus

Many students find that they are in need of a mid-day nap after long hours of classes and studying. This problem is particularly acute for off-campus students who can’t return to their beds between classes (though they may try). Trying to find a comfortable place to have a quick cat-nap should be the least of your worries, which is why The Ontarion has decided to compile a list of the top five napping locations on campus to save you from accidentally power-napping through all of your classes.

Tim Hortons’ above the Bookstore

The Tim Hortons’ above the Bookstore in MacNaughton offers an arrangement of comfortable faux leather couches for the leisure of their customers. There are also regular tables and chairs if you care to enjoy a snack before or after your nap. The nice thing about this location is that the view is scenic as there are many windows. However, the natural lighting can make it more difficult to fall asleep, especially on a sunny day.

Johnston Green

In the warmer months, many fancy a snooze in the warm sunlight. A popular location for outdoor naps is Johnston Green. With the light breeze rolling over the lawn and the sounds of students strolling by on their way to class, this location is fantastic for shorter naps between classes.

Macdonald Institute

Throughout the Macdonald Institute are a number of couches that offer a broken-in comfort to the Guelph community. However, these couches are missing arms, which make them rather hard to lean on. Fear not; Macdonald Institute actually has a lounge tucked away on the right hand side of the first floor. This quiet, contained atmosphere is accompanied by a small shop where you can purchase coffee and snacks.

University Centre

The couches beside the Booster Juice in the University Centre have a wider selection of couches after inheriting the collection formerly owned by the LA Pit. While this location offers great corner couches, armchairs, and other amenities, the noise of the blenders can be hard to ignore. With a pair of headphones, however, this is an easy fix. In addition, the Williams has great coffee and specialty drinks, some of which happen to be fair trade!

The Bullring

One of the most popular spots for on-campus napping is The Bullring. Like many of the other locations listed, The Bullring has many couches and seating options. In addition, the fun, feel-good music and great atmosphere makes this location particularly inviting. If that doesn’t sell you on this location, their wide variety of food and drinks sure will. The Bullring is particularly well known for its vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options, as well as their selection of fair-trade teas. For these reasons and more, The Bullring tops the list of on-campus napping grounds.
