Snoop Dogg launches cannabis brand

Move over Beats by Dre, a new rapper endorsed product has arrived on the market. However, this time the product in question isn’t a pair of headphones, but rather a brand of cannabis from rap’s favorite stoner. On November 10th, Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus launched Leafs by Snoop, which began being distributed at licensed Colorado shop LivWell this week and is set to expand to shops throughout the state by the end of the month.

Packaged in a white box with a streamlined golden leaf design, Snoop’s line of Leafs products are divided into three subcategories: flowers, concentrates, and edibles. The Leafs flowers and concentrates each cover a variety of different strains and flavors. Meanwhile, the Leafs edibles will include marijuana-laced chocolates, fruit jubes, and gummies. “Wherever my musical journey has taken me around the world, it’s beautiful to see how chronic leafs are a common source of peace, love and soul that connect us all,” Snoop said in a statement on the company website. Leafs by Snoop is my way of sharing the experience I have with the finest quality cannabis one could imagine.” For those who have even marginally followed Snoop Dogg’s career Leafs should come as no surprise, as the rapper has had a long and storied enthusiasm for marijuana. Snoop’s first big break came on Dr. Dre’s 1992 album The Chronic, the album’s title itself a slang term for cannabis, and such subtly titled songs as “Smoke Weed Everyday,” “Smoke the Weed,” and “This Weed Iz Mine” have only played up the rapper’s pothead persona over the years. In 2007, Snoop even appeared opposite Mary-Louise Parker on the pot-themed Showtime series Weeds, playing himself.

One of the platforms of the recently elected Liberal Party was the legalization and regulation of cannabis. With Justin Trudeau having taken office earlier this month, it could be only a matter of time before dispensaries begin cropping up in Canada. Depending on the brand’s success in Colorado, Leafs by Snoop may soon be coming to a convenient location near you.
