This Week on the Internet

Double the Netflix Originals in 2016

Gracing the front page of Reddit this week is a story by Wired about Netflix releasing twice the amount of original content in 2016. Julia Greenberg’s article revealed that last year, 16 original scripted series aired on Netflix, and that number will increase to 31 in 2016.

Next year, all Canadians will have subscription-free access to Shomi and Crave, owned by Bell and Rogers and Shaw, respectively. The CRTC, Canada’s broadcast regulator, ruled in March 2015 that in order to have a unique streaming service, it must also be available to people without a cable subscription online. With the introduction of two of the top Canadian-made streaming models, Netflix will be getting its first taste of in-class competition. With their stocks on the rise (NFLX), and a plethora of top shelf content about to launch, they might not be shaking in their boots just yet.

With recent bangers like Master of None, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and classics like Orange is the New Black, hopes are high for whatever Netflix puts out. Some 2016 titles to look forward to include: Chelsea Handler (talk show), Marvel’s Luke Cage, The Magic School Bus 360˚, The Crown (historical drama), and Fuller House.

Bat-flip, “Hotline Bling”, Deathly Hallows

When the film The Social Network came out, folks were starry-eyed about Facebook’s lack of intrusive ad systems. Flash forward to 2015; Facebook knows everything you like and they are pitching you so many Christmas sweater options through sponsored posts you might cry into your eggnog.

This tacky invasion of privacy isn’t all bad though, right? How else would you know about that signature bat-flip Bautista sweater? Well, other than the fact that every sports network in the country ran a story about it. It was as if every network reporter got hit with the same native advertising and thought, “eureka!”

Maybe if you could care less about baseball, especially in the off-season, there is still a sweater for you. This past September at Toronto’s Riot Fest, bands were already slinging festive merchandise, including the classic holiday pullover. Drake has also been spotted on festive Christmas-wear doing his signature dance move from his “Hotline Bling” music video.

So you are one of those rare humans that “doesn’t like music.” How about an Accio Harry Potter themed sweater! In a beautiful cross over, you can spend $46 after taxes and have your own “Happy Christmas Ya Filthy Muggle” Christmas sweater that also features the deathly hallows symbol. What better way to celebrate both your love of Harry Potter and the 25th anniversary of the film Home Alone?

If you plan on ordering a sweater, or anything else off of the Internet, you had best do it soon, and consider priority shipping. It’s getting cold out there—maybe a Charmander sweater is just thing to keep you warm.
