McDonald’s restaurants across Canada will be accepting candy canes and the phrase “Ho Ho Ho” as payment starting on Dec 14, 2015, until Christmas Day. The campaign, which is a follow up to the Share the Love campaign—a previous project headed up by the fast food giant—incorporates similar goals of spreading cheer and holiday spirit. For those who do not celebrate Christmas, do not fear, any holiday greeting, such as “Happy Kwanza” and “Happy Hanukkah” are also acceptable, as are greetings in other languages, like “Feliz Navida.” With the ability to get free food through phrases and actions, people are encouraged to spread the word—however, McDonald’s is trusting that people will not take advantage of their offer.

Kim Kardashian-West and Kanye gave birth to a healthy baby boy this week, and have officially released the name: Saint West.  Though there has been much speculation over which name would be chosen for the couple’s second child, the superstar pairing decided on Saint, and only announced the name days after the birth. The couple said, earlier this week, that the reason for the name choice was a difficult one, and though they were seriously considering South, to match sister North, the couple believed that Saint was the better choice.  Yeezy, who recently released a clothing line added that, though he would let Kim finish her reasoning, he was the reason for the name choice because, “[He is] a genius, [he is] a god.” The release of the Saint North West clothing line for children is expected to draw in trillions of buyers around the universe.

A new report released Dec. 4, 2015, measuring the correlation between the image of Santa Claus and the number of exotic vacations, has revealed some surprising results. The image of Santa Claus is everywhere during Christmas time, and the image is spurring people to action—purchasing action, that is. The report, which measured the influx of vacations booked at this time of year in comparison to the rest of the year, showed that the number of trips booked is highest when Santa is around, with Spring Break coming in at a close second.  Though the report is quite detailed, no information has been released regarding the most popular destination, whether there were actually Santa Claus pictures in the travel agencies or on their web pages, or if Canadian weather played any role.

Finally, the Canadian government has come up with a plan to combat high oil prices. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his newly appointed cabinet have been in talks via Skype, due to his presence at the Paris climate conference, to solidify the solutions being brought forward.  The plan, aptly named the Justifiable and Overuse Killer Exponent or JOKE, lists multiple strategies to assist those feeling the pressure of the high gas prices. Some examples are charging a small penalty every time someone say “Eh!”, developing cars that are powered by running or pedaling feet a la The Flintstones, and encouraging LCBO stores across Ontario to donate excess Vodka to fuel alcohol-powered engines.  With the ideas put forward, the Liberals hope that JOKE will successful ease the strain being felt by the Canadian people while they’re out and about this holiday season.
