Have you ever woken up on those icy winter mornings, groggy and half asleep, when suddenly, the moment you step foot outside, the sharp wind cuts right through your muddled senses and you find yourself awake, alert and immensely sharp minded? Recent research by Olaf Yensid, has shown that taking cold showers will not only recreate that sensation, but it will also awaken your senses in a quick and effective way, while making you wiser in the long term.
Yensid has been studying this effect for the last 10 years after pitying students pursuing education at post-secondary institutions across the globe. His goal was to find a way in which to artificially induce wisdom without ever having to leave the comfort of your home, believing that it would prove to be a more effective and natural alternative to taking pills for overwhelmed students. He ended up accidentally stumbling upon the secret to acquiring wisdom along the way.
By taking cold showers, not only will students be able to better focus and concentrate on their studies, but, as a result of the wisdom factor, it will also diminish stress in all aspects of their lives through the application of better judgement as a result of knowledge that they, prior to this day, would have had to gain through experience. Thanks to Yensid’s discovery, individuals will be able to be more mature without needing any life experience, and more productive for longer periods of time.
The natural process of focusing and wisening works through inhalation. When the cool air comes in close proximity to your mind, it shocks it, not unlike the effect that new experiences have on your brain. After increased exposure, your mind increasingly becomes wiser due to constantly receiving shocks similar to those of new experiences.
The only direct contact that the cool air has with your mind is when it hits your nostrils, and the back of your throat. Those two fairly small areas alone are enough to cause wisening after extended exposure, but their immediate focusing effects are short lived. Yensid found that cold showers have longer lasting effects, of which can go up to six hours. This is believed to be due to the fact that the entire head is being dumped into the cold, sending more and various parts of the brain into shock at once. The bigger the shock, the longer the focusing effects last.
It has also strangely been found to correlate with a decrease in dandruff. More research must be done in that area to see if the loss of dandruff might also have a relation with the wisening of the research subjects. Additionally, experiments with snow were also done, but they were found to be much less effective.
On a side note, at some point during the research process Yensid was sent to hospital emergency after getting a whole carrot stuck in his nose and having an unusually low body temperature.
