On March 3, 2016, University of Guelph fourth-year mechanical engineering student Eric Nielsen passed away in a car accident. Nielsen was manager for the Gryphon Racing team.
“Yesterday, we lost one of the best drivers we’ve ever had, a great team captain who always had the solution, and an amazing friend,” read a March 4, 2016 post from the Gryphon Racing Facebook page. “Eric, you will be missed and forever a part of this team.”
Nielsen’s family suggests memorial donations be made to the University of Guelph’s School of Engineering in Nielsen’s name.
