Thank you for selecting me to be your Central Student Association communications and corporate affairs commissioner.
I will not shy away from the fact that this year’s election spawned some of the lowest participation numbers in a decade, and that every candidate ran uncontested. So when I say thank you for selecting me, I can understand the perceived lack of choice. Although I have arrived to this position through dreary circumstances, know this; I am committed to serving all students to the highest standard and producing tangible results while in my position.
I hope this will be a year of investigation where the CSA can find out what students want, and what students want the CSA to be. None of this will be possible without clear two-way communication. I’ve heard feedback, and will be searching for more, so we can form your association to better fit your wants and needs as a student. It’s time to make time, to do the research, and ensure that the CSA is truly your student association.
While we go through this fact-finding mission, we must remember that there are people who do not have a strong voice, or whose needs are silenced by the perceived norm. I will listen, and I will act to make sure all students are represented.
The CSA has a great team of staff, and excited executive board members that will be making the 2016/17 term one of great positive change. If you want to be a part of this challenging, exciting, and fun experience next year, get in touch, as we will be looking for energetic volunteers soon.
Thank you for this privilege, and I look forward to serving students through suitable leadership.
Now, it’s time to go to work.
—Zoey Ross, CSA commissioner elect
