What you can enjoy in Canada this summer season
Where are you going this summer? Escaping to the Bahamas? Visiting Europe? Enjoying the beautiful French beaches to get some serious tanning done? Or strolling the Italian cobbled-stone streets while eating gelato? What are your reasons for traveling? Are you visiting family, catching up with old friends, or maybe just going on holiday with a loved one? Well, summer is definitely the best time to do it with its warm sunny days and without all the snow, hail, and sleet that comes with winter.
[pullquote align=”left” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]Yes, we do get sunshine.[/pullquote]Even though winter seemed endless this year and it felt like summer would never arrive, it has finally made an entrance. This got me thinking about how the world views our Canadian summers. For anyone who is new to Canada and has yet to experience our summer: Yes, we do get sunshine.
Isn’t it wonderful? The trees are finally budding and soon enough it’ll be warm enough to go swimming again. Here in Ontario, we get a perfect mix of hot and cool weather. For readers wondering what the rest of the country has to offer, perhaps this will persuade you to travel within Canadian borders this summer.
[pullquote align=”left” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]…do some hiking, white-water rafting, or try their natural hot springs.[/pullquote]There are a lot of great things to do and places to visit. Canada has a great variety of music festivals to choose from, like Osheaga in Montreal, where a number of great bands like Bastille, Death Cab For Cutie, HI-LO, and Lana Del Rey will be performing.
If you want to travel out west, join the fun at the Calgary Stampede in Alberta. It is a blast and takes over the whole city for ten days straight. Get your hands on a cowboy hat and spurs and get ready for a stampede of entertainment, shopping, and fantastic food. If that’s not enough, you can even visit the Canadian Rockies and enjoy the city of Banff; do some hiking, white-water rafting, or try their natural hot springs.
Visiting opposite ends of the country is exciting; however, traveling by plane, long lines, airplane food, and even worrying about luggage can be really tiring. So if you don’t want to travel to another province and wish for a quiet getaway with friends or family, try renting a cottage bordering one of Ontario’s Great Lakes. For example, Muskoka is gorgeous this time of year and is highly recommended for fishing, golfing, and flyboarding. As the sun sets, enjoy yourself stargazing with a nice glass of red wine and great company.
Canada offers great opportunities for the summer. It may not get as hot as Florida, and maybe we’ll have a few cool days when we can’t wear shorts, but this is our summer and I assure you I’m definitely looking forward to it!
