Summer movie preview

What movies are you most interested in seeing this summer?

We all love going to the movies, grabbing the best seats in the house, chowing down on popcorn, M&Ms, and nachos, and drinking pops the size of a small child. All while enjoying the newest blockbuster. With that fun in mind, here are the top five movies I can’t wait to see this summer:

5. The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble in theatres Friday, June 10, 2016

Although a documentary may appear out of place on a list of summer blockbusters, I am definitely looking forward to seeing this film in theatres. The Music of Strangers features the talented Yo-Yo Ma and international artists of The Silk Road Project—an amazing non-profit organization that promotes collaboration among artists and institutions. The documentary explores what music means to the world, both philosophically and metaphorically. It especially concentrates on the fact that music can connect people despite language barriers and the differences of race, age, and gender. It may not be a 3D action thriller, but why not try something a little different the next time you go to the movies?

4. Central Intelligence in theatres Friday, June 17, 2016

A buddy cop comedy featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart? Yes, please! The tables turn as The Rock’s character, Bob, a high school geek turned CIA agent, enlists former jock Calvin (Hart) to help save the world. Watching The Rock singing in the shower in what appears to be a CGI fat suit foreshadows a certain brand of ridiculousness that seems too fun to miss.

3. Suicide Squad in theatres Friday, August 5, 2016

Bad guys forming a team to help the save Gotham—now that’s a show I definitely don’t want to miss. The casting is stellar, with Jared Leto as Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Suicide Squad is bound to include a great deal of dark humour and gritty, disturbing imagery. If you love explosions, gun fights, and rooting for the bad guy, grab some popcorn and get ready to join the squad!

2. Jason Bourne in theatres Friday, July 29, 2016

He’s dangerous, crafty, and has a bone to pick with the CIA. Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne in the fifth instalment of the Bourne series. While Jeremy Renner’s addition to the series was interesting, I’m so glad to see Damon back in the lead role. Despite regaining his memories, there’s still something Bourne needs to know. The mystery is beyond intriguing and I can’t wait to find out more.

1. Finding Dory in theatres Friday, June 17, 2016

After 13 years, Finding Nemo’s Dory is finally getting her own film! This time, it’s our lovable, forgetful surgeonfish’s turn to travel across the ocean to find her family with Marlin and Nemo along for the adventure. Though it definitely looks like a bumpy ride, I’m really looking forward to seeing the journey that leads her to an aquarium, a kitchen, and what looks like a tin can full of dead fish. And if all this wasn’t awesome enough, the graphics of this long-awaited sequel look amazing!

These are my totally biased choices, so feel free to agree or disagree. I’d also love to hear what movies you’re most interested in seeing this summer. Please leave me your recommendations in the comments section!
