Where to go to find a cup of joe
- The Bullring
Hands down the best coffee shop on campus, the Bullring provides an authentic University of Guelph experience while also offering great-tasting coffee at an affordable price. With plenty of seating and humble décor, the Bullring is a great place to grab a coffee with a friend. It’s popularity often results in a long line at certain times of the day, so if you’re looking to grab and go, be sure to show up during off-hours (avoid lunchtime).
- Daily Grind
Located right in the middle of central campus on the first floor of the University Centre, the Daily Grind is the best option for someone looking for great tasting coffee in a convenient location with tons of sitting room. This café boasts a ton of tables and super comfy couches that also double as prime napping spots. As for price, coffee at the Daily Grind is more expensive than Tim Horton’s but also slightly cheaper than Starbucks.
- Second Cup
There are three Second Cups located around campus, with one located in the Science Complex, the second located right on the corner of College Street and Gordon Street, and the third at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). All three offer Second Cup’s classic brew and fair prices, while offering different conveniences for students. Have a class in north campus? With most coffee spots being closer to central campus, Second Cup at College and Gordon is perfect for students heading to class toward north campus. The service is quick and all forms of payment are accepted (except student cards).
- Starbucks
For good coffee at a higher price, there are three Starbucks locations on campus: the library, the UC, and the LA Pit. Starbucks boasts a stronger, more bitter tasting coffee with freshly brewed varieties for the coffee lover (espresso shots, lattes, and Americanos, to name a few). The lines tend to be long, so definitely don’t try squeezing Starbucks in if you’re late for class.
- Tim Horton’s
For good ol’ reliable, visit one of the many Tim Horton’s locations on campus. Located in the UC, above the Bookstore, in the Gryph’s arena, and in the Albert A. Thornbrough building, Tim Horton’s offers good coffee at a very low price. The Albert A. Thornbrough building, also known as the engineering building, is often the least busy location and offers self-serve like the UC. However, all four locations are quick regardless of a line, making Tim’s the best option for a super fast coffee run.
