Reactions range from sympathy to derision
Recently it was reported that Kim Kardashian was allegedly robbed at gunpoint in Paris at Hôtel de Pourtalès. Kardashian reported a frightening incident in which the multi-media mogul was threatened at gunpoint, tied up, put in a bathtub, and left for someone to find. Kardashian alleges that her jewelry was stolen, which included a ring worth $4 million. In total approximately $11 million worth of valuables were stolen during the heist.
Everyone is asking where on Earth was her bodyguard Pascal Duvier, her omnipresent shadow? Many think it is unusual that such a famous figure was alone in her hotel room. True, the hotel should have enough security to stop this from happening, but if threatened at gun point, it’s hard for the staff to do anything either. So what we have so far is a basic, yet well-organized robbery of opportunity where Kardashian lost her jewelry. What should have been a somewhat simple news story of a celebrity robbed with no leads, has recently spiraled into a mess of giant proportions.

Huffington Post reported that Kardashian faked her own robbery in an article that has since been deleted. Apparently the article reported that she confessed to E! executives on tape because of how guilty she felt about her actions, and when asked why she did it, she said it was to help bring up the ratings for Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Personally, I think this is absolutely ridiculous. Keeping Up With the Kardashians is one of the highest rated shows on television, attracting approximately two million viewers per week. It has even been reported that due to Kim’s “confession,” the show has been cancelled, though this has not been confirmed at this time. What could cause her to confess, much less plan such a thing? She had to have known the potential consequences.
Considering that Huffington Post deleted their post and many other sites reporting on this issue are gossip websites such as Starcasm and YourNewsWire, I’m taking the reports with a grain of salt. Until a court of law proves the opposite, a woman was robbed, threatened at gunpoint, and a family almost lost a daughter, a sister, and a mother. This is not entertainment, this is not something to be considered funny. A person’s life was potentially threatened. After this experience, Kardashian has already started keeping a lower profile online. So to those laughing or sneering, please remember this, someone could have lost their life.
