The men’s rugby team stomped over the McMaster Marauders to make it to their third straight OUA final against Queen’s Gaels. Guelph hasn’t won the OUA title since 1998 and will look to make history on Sun, Nov. 13.
Men’s basketball vs. Western
Gryphons 83, Mustangs 81
The men’s basketball team opened their season on the road in style. Despite being outscored in every other quarter, the team won by outscoring Western 29-14 in a huge third quarter to keep the game close.
Women’s basketball vs. Western
Gryphons 45, Mustangs 58
The women’s basketball team dropped their season opener on the road to the Western Mustangs. They will look to get their first win in their home opener against Queen’s on Sat, Nov. 12.
Men’s hockey vs. Royal Military College of Canada
Gryphons 4, RMC 3
Guelph started strong against RMC, going up 3-0 in the first period. Despite a late charge from RMC in the third period, Guelph was able to narrowly hold them off to win the game 4-3.
Women’s hockey vs. Queen’s
Gryphons 5, Gaels 0
The women’s hockey team defeated Queen’s with ease, earning goalie Valerie Lamenta a shutout and extending the Gryphons winning streak to four games.
Men’s volleyball vs. Western and Windsor
Gryphons 3, Mustangs 0
Gryphons 3, Lancers 1
The men’s volleyball team swept away the competition on their weekend road trip defeating the Western Mustangs three sets to zero, 25-18, 25-22, and 26-24. The Gryphons then shut down the Windsor Lancers three sets to one on the second stop of their away game run. After losing the first set 25-19, Guelph won three straight sets 25-19, 25-23, and 25-16.
Women’s volleyball vs. Western and Windsor

The women’s volleyball team started their away game campaign against a tough Western team, falling 25-16, 25-16, and 25-21. The Gryphons bounced back in game two of their road trip, defeating the Windsor lancers three sets to one. Guelph won the first set 25-19 before dropping one set 25-15 and then closing out the game 25-22 and 25-21.
Field hockey U Sports national championships
4th place
The field hockey team ended their strong season with a fourth place finish at nationals. The team faced off against Toronto, Victoria, and UBC, but were outplayed as they lost to the Toronto Varsity Blues 2-0 in the bronze medal match. UBC went on to win an unprecedented sixth national title in a row.
Women’s rugby U Sports national championships
4th place
The women’s rugby team defeated the Victoria Vikes in the quarterfinals 33-27 to move onto the national semifinal. Their quest for the title was stopped short by St. Francis Xavier as they lost 38-24. The Gryphons then faced off against the Calgary Dinos in the bronze medal match, but missed the podium as they fell 24-12 in a heartbreaking end to their season.
