Women’s and men’s teams have promising futures this year

The men’s and women’s volleyball teams played their first games of the season on their home court over the weekend. The teams finished with impressive records from two games each. The women’s team kicked off their home opener against RMC, defeating them swiftly in three sets to zero. The men’s opener against RMC saw the same fate, as the Gryphons walked over the Paladins three sets to zero.

In their second contest of the weekend, the women’s team fell narrowly to the Queen’s Gaels. In an exciting match that went to the fifth set, the Gaels held on to win three sets to two over Guelph. The men’s game saw a similar story as the Gryphons and Gaels were tied at two sets a piece as well. In the final set of the game, the Gaels proved to be no match for the athletic Gryphons as Guelph took home the victory.

The women’s team sits in sixth place in the OUA West standings after these two games. The men’s team tops the standings in first place. Both teams will play Brock on Fri, Nov. 25.
